Sounding Images: Reshaping the heritage of Italian cinema classics

Sounding Images: Reshaping the heritage of Italian cinema classics is a SISS project concert series dedicated to the rediscovery and enhancement of the Italian audiovisual heritage through live music.

Its development has led to the production of two different film-concerts. The first one, “Italy In Film: Song, Opera, And Novel In The Mirror Of Cinema”, curated by Francesco Finocchiaro and Fabio Cifariello Ciardi, include scenes from films inspired by Neapolitan songs made two pioneers of Italian cinema in the 1910s and 1920s, ‘A Santanotte” (1921–22) by Elvira Notari and “Napoli che canta” (1926) by Roberto Leone Roberti.

The second film-concert is titled “Reshaping soundtracks: documentary films of the 1950s and 1960s, and Avant-Garde Italian Music”, curated by Fabio Cifariello Ciardi, Bruno Di Marino and Francesco Finocchiaro presents a fresco of Italy through documentaries produced between the Second World War and the 1960s.

The original soundtracks, composed by important composers of the second half of the 20th century such as Roman Vlad and Egisto Macchi, have been reinterpreted for ensemble and electronics by composers Rares-Ionuț Ghimpu, Raul Masu and Gabriele Pierro.
